Empowering Communities for Climate Action
Across rural Liberia, the communities most exposed to poverty, food insecurity, and climate shocks are also the ones best positioned to lead change. Over 70% of Liberians rely on natural resources for survival, yet these are under threat from deforestation, land degradation, and a changing climate (UNDP).
Youth Glow believes the way forward is through empowering frontline communities, especially youth and women. With nearly 60% of Liberia’s population under 25 (UNICEF), engaging young people is essential for lasting development.
Our programs center communities in climate action—training youth in sustainable farming, forest restoration, clean energy, and small business skills. In Bong and Nimba, young leaders are already reviving land, protecting resources, and creating economic opportunities.
FAO notes that local land and resource management boosts food security and ecosystem health. When Liberia’s community-driven models, like those led by Youth Glow, are expanded, the result will be powerful—for people, for nature, and for generations to come.

The Overlooked Majority
For too long, conservation efforts in Liberia have relied on top down approaches, overlooking the voices and leadership of the very communities most affected by environmental decline.
Rural youth, women, and smallholder farmers are often left out of national development plans, even though their daily lives depend on natural resources now under threat.
At Youth Glow, we believe true sustainability starts from the ground up. When communities lead with the tools, knowledge, and support they need, real change happens. Locally led solutions are not just more inclusive, they are more effective and lasting.

Youth Glow envisions rural communities in Liberia not just participating in environmental protection, but leading it—managing their forests, farms, and natural resources to safeguard their livelihoods, culture, and ecosystems for future generations.
We’re working toward a future where communities and nature thrive together. A future where community-managed land and resources are protected by law, where local data informs local decisions, and where youth, women, and grassroots leaders drive a new era of resilience and sustainability across Liberia.
Thriving Communities. Thriving Ecosystem.
